Here’s to Love
Because Valentine’s Day arrives smack in the middle of the month, this issue of Thrive is entirely devoted to couples.
We loved looking at the lush landscape of the many people who have spent decades forging their lives together: straight or gay, younger, older, brown, or black, or white, tall or short. They are artistic, intelligent, enigmatic, and charismatic. Although each mate is often a conundrum to the other, these couples have stayed stuck like glue. We feature work partners, life partners, married partners, and artistic partners.
In all, the more we learn about couples and love, the more we understand that this terrain is infinite and unknowable. This is what excites us and encourages us to fling our lot in with someone else! We vow forever; we promise love even when the people we were when we met grow obscured by years, and we morph and reinvent ourselves seven times over. We still love all the people they were, and anticipate adoring all of the incarnations yet to come.
In this cold month, we invite you to bask in the warmth of couples and how they find the strength to withstand all of the chills life throws at us.
This is a celebration of the people in our lives who shore us up--offering counsel, criticism, affection and doses of reality. Here’s to the duos, dyads, friends, lovers, partners, spouses, and family in our lives.
Here’s to love !
